"Frequently Asked Questions"

What type of production do you do?

SMG is a full service production company. We shoot, write, edit and post-produce promotional and broadcast content. We take our clients ideas and create custom content beginning with a concept and follow it through to completion.

We are also available to provide DP, ENG or live camera services.

What type of equipment do you use?

We shoot award-winning video in ALL formats. We specialize in broadcast quality HDCam, using a Sony F900/3 considered the most versatile and soughtafter camera in the industry. Additionally, we are equiped to shoot in DVCam, Betacamsp, HDV, and XDCamEX. We edit in full 1920x1080 HD using Avid Media Composer Adrenaline in frame rates ranging from 24p to 1080/60i. SMG has three fully functional edit suites designed for both off-line and on-line editing.

Have you shot news?

Keven is an experienced tv news photographer, winning more than 150 awards during his 20 year career. In addition to general news, national and international travel, Strehle has extensive experience as a "live camera" for sporting events, engineering live shots and was a sideline photographer for the Seattle Seahawks for four years.

Our experience in news created our philosophy "production values at the speed of news," a tremendous benefit to our clients and our way to get an incredible product in the quickest and least expensive manner.

What are your day rates?

There is a wide array of rates depending on the chosen format, project and discipline. So the short answer is, there is no short answer. We try to give our clients what they need, within their pre-determined budget, while meeting the highest standards of the broadcast industry.

Some projects are not suitable for SMG but we like to have frank discussions with potential clients to see if we are right for one another. As a way to protect our potential clients, we will not accept a job if we cannot meet those aforementioned standards. If you have a better offer from another company, we are happy to negotiate terms.

Typically, Keven and crew will operate a full scale production in HDCam at $1500.00 for a half-day and $2200-$2500 US for a ten hour shoot day, not including travel.

It's important to note that rarely do we shoot and just hand off the tapes. This rate is well thought out and makes the production process easier for our clients giving them a firm budget, avoiding overages such as OT, encoding, and other delivery related issues.

Any content editing that is needed will be billed at 150.00 an hour, rate includes edit suite fees.

What does SMG look for when taking on new projects/clients?

We are great at what we do and we look for clients and projects that meet or exceed our own award-winning standards. We limit the number of clients/projects we accept so that we can achieve tremendous results for our clients.

We look for inspiration in everything we do and feel that element is an integral element to producing content that will captivate and inspire your potential clients. Stretching ourselves too thin would counter our goals and jeapordize our values.

We currently have a substantial project list, but we are always looking for our next great adventure!!! Give us a call!

STREHLE SHAKES THE HAND OF THE PRESIDENT

Washington, D.C. - The Strehle family visited the 43rd President of the United States on November 12th, 2008 Keven had the honor and the privilege to shake the hand of President George W. Bush inside the Oval Office.

On a beautiful fall day, Keven and his 3 sisters traveled to Washington D.C. to meet and take a family photograph with the President. Karen Evans, Keven's youngest sister and Presidential appointee working in Executive Office of the President of the United States is the Administrator of the Office of Electronic Government and Information Technology (IT) at the Office of Management and Budget. Evans has been with the administration for 6 years and is currently assisting with the transition to the Obama Presidency.

In appreciation for her years of dedicated service, she was given the opportunity to spend a few minutes with the President and take photos to commemorate her prestigious position.

Keven, Karen, Karla and Kathleen first spent time in Evan's executive office at the White House and at 1:30pm eastern standard time, headed for the Oval Office. They spent nearly an hour waiting along side some of the highest ranking officials in the United States inside the Roosevelt room of the West Wing.

Just prior to entering the Oval Office, Keven and his sisters were briefed by the secret service on the procedure to enter the inner sanctum, a place where some of the world's most defining moments have taken place and is perhaps the most historically significant room in the world. Once the door of the office was opened the family entered the Oval Office and was greeted by the President himself. Karen received a hug and a kiss and his deepest appreciation for her years of executive service. Followed by Keven, who shook his hand and received a pat on the shoulder, Karla and husband John and finally, Kathleen.

John Peard is suffering from an aggressive form of cancer and has been battling the disease since December 2007. Mr. Bush spent several minutes speaking with John and Karla offering words of encouragement, wisdom and hope. His compassion and genuine caring brought tears to the eyes of the girls.

After the brief conversation, introductions and Presidential chit chat the group proceeded to the front of the Presidents desk for the photographs. Knowing the levity of the situation, "its not everyday you meet the leader of the free world" noted Schoonover, Bush cracked a few jokes, gave us some relaxation tips and snap!

The photograph is a document of historical significance to the family and one that will have a prominent place in our homes. Continuing his compassionate advice to cancer patient, brother, spouse and friend John, he again reminded he and Karla that remaining optimistic during this incredibly difficult time was paramount. He then gave hugs and kisses to all the Strehle girls and offered Keven a firm, confident and powerful handshake.

The family was then guided out of the Oval Office into the Rose Garden, where the following day President-elect Barrack Obama and President George W. Bush were photographed together for the first time.

In an emotional review of the meeting, Karla and Karen shared a hug and a few tears. "It was the first time John has smiled in month's" Peard said.

The afternoon ended with a tour of the White House grounds, hand shakes with top officials, and photo ops.

"It was an incredible day" Kathy Schoonover continued, 'history will show that George W. Bush our nation's 43rd President, was a great man, a great leader and a great President."

Keven documented the emotional day with an HD handicam and will edit a piece for the Strehle family archive in 2008.

STREHLE SHOOTS IN ALASKA AND WYOMING FOR OUTDOOR CHANNEL

Seattle, WA – Producer and photojournalist Keven H. Strehle and his production team have just returned from two trips, Salmon fishing for Coho in Alaska with Captain Rob of the Saltery C and Whitetail hunting in the snow in Clearmont, WY with Jon Ball and JS Outfitters.

Both trips are being produced by SMG for a demo for the Outdoor Channel. We have been talking to programming exec's at Outdoor Channel regarding providing quality outdoor programming for air in 2009.

THe trips themselves were phenomenal, each in their own right peaceful, action packed, and productive. Capt. Rob and Keven spent a quick three days chasing silvers and landing a few too. 60 in all, limiting each day.

While there we were introduced to Aussie beauty, Rebekka along for her first Salmon fishing adventure. She and Capo were outstanding hosts and we shot some fantastic video of Rebe's first Alaskan fishing and wilderness adventure. Check back for the video, I hope to have a new video finished within the next 30 days.

After recuperating from the Alaska trip, we packed up the old Range Rover and drove a thousand miles east to Wyoming for a 4 day hunt. During the drive it started snowing, and never stopped until we left 4 days later. It was an absolutely beautiful shoot. I love snow video, and it isn't bad for the hunting either. Keven bagged a nice 8 point Whitetail and we shot some really nice stuff. Can't wait to start editing!

Last but certainly not least, Keven and his family is heading to Washington DC to meet the President. In a rare opportunity to meet the leader of he free world, the Strehle's will have their photo taken, and have a few minutes to chat with "W." Keven hopes to make a request to the press secretary for the President to comment on the state of our nations forests for the documentary series "Fire Line," which is currently in production. The project itself is a two-year commitment and is slated for air in late 2009. If the President agrees, most likely we will wait until after the November elections to interview our nations 43rd President.

That's the most current news, hope one and all are well.

~SMG.

January 28th , 2007

SMG, Inc. and Veni Vidi Films have moved into our new, state of the art production facility in Queen Anne! After a long construction process, purchasing and installing equipment, hauling funiture, TV's, desks and anything and everything, we are up and running. The studio is comfortable, professional, stylish and is a nice place to work each and every day.

The studio houses a new Avid Adrenaline system capable of handling full HDCam 1920x1080 resolution, it has been hummin' with activity. The first project is set to be completed on Monday for presentation on the 30th. The week of the 28th is a great time to "drop in." We will be hosting a week long "open house" and on the 30th we'll have a reception for clients and investors of the two dcumentaries "Rough Water," and "A Football Band of Brothers." That function is by invitation only.

As those of you reading this may know, this is a very exciting time for Lenny and me. We have placed a solid foot-print in Seattle's independent film and documentary scene. We currently have a half-dozen projects in development including "Wild Country" which is in the house at Discovery and Nat Geo and is being reviewed for air. A pilot deal is imminent and we will begin pre-production as early as the end of February.

In the meantime we are working out some of the computer bugs with servers, cpu's and we're in the process of installing acoustic tiles in each of the three edit suites.

We have audtioned a new editor and will announce his hire in the weeks to come, suffice it to say he has done a stellar job and is already considered a part of our team.

We are also wrapping up our third year at the Puyallup Sportsman's show which has become a great place to exchange ideas, make new friends and brainstorm ways to have fun, fish, hunt and create compelling content for our clients. We are super excited about 2008 as the projects already in pre-production are gaining speed and those in development are progressing nicely as well.

We hope to see all of our friends in the upcoming weeks and we wish you all the best in 2008!

SMG, Inc. has signed another documentary deal in association with Veni Vedi Films of Los Angeles/Seattle. In addition to the historic retrospective on the University of Washington's 1958 rowing team, SMG will co-produce another film from the same era.

1960 was the year the UW won its first NCAA football National Championship. A real cause for celebration however, they were NOT recognized for that accomplishment until recently.

The film will be based on author Tom Porter's book, "A Football Band of Brothers" recalling the ferocity of a team "that changed the game of football."

Production will run concurrently with ""Rough Water: Odyssey Behind the Iron Curtain" and will be completed sometime in 2008 for air on ESPN.

October 9th, 2007

SMG and Veni Vedi Films opening Seattle production studios in November.

The lower Queen Ann offices and production studio will open its doors in November. After a lengthy search for the perfect office space the ideal location has been found! We will start moving into the studio after small contruction and engineering project are completed in early November.

Stay tuned we will have an "office warming" sometime around the holidays.

September 15th, 2007

We just returned from an intense trip to Moscow, Russia. The experience was like the many other international experiences I've had, difficult.

The culture is truly foriegn, unable to read street signs, speak with the cabbies or order a hotdog, Russia was a challenge from the moment we stepped off the plane after 26 hours in transit!

The good news? The UW Men's Crew won the race against Cambridge, Russsia and Oxford. The celebration was very visual and I look forward to sitting down at the edit bench to put this piece together.

In other news, I left KING Television after 11 years, the last seven with Northwest Backroads, to focus on the national feature work Lenny and I are working on. It has been a time of great expectation and excitement, the future looks fantastic!!!
